Cooler than many parts of the Napa Valley, the 2020 Acre Cabernet Sauvignon comes predominantly from the organically farmed, family-owned Mill Race Estate Vineyard in Yountville which is nestled in the curve of the Napa River’s eastern bank. The vineyard is protected by the Yountville Hills to the west and is located just below the Oakville AVA to the north. Our dedication to organic farming remains steadfast, guaranteeing vintages that are environmentally sustainable for generations to come. The Mill Race Vineyard is one of the original Napa vineyard sites planted by Napa Valley pioneer George C. Yount over 180 years ago.

Our 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon is an absolute stand-out in an otherwise controversial Napa Valley harvest. Vibrant black cherry in the glass, the lifted aromatics of black raspberry, Bing cherry, cola berry, fig, currants, menthol, cedar, sage, and bakers’ chocolate blend seamlessly into flavors of more cherry, boysenberry, plum, anise, black peppercorns, leather, graphite, and dried blueberry. The finish is long and beautifully nuanced with balanced tannins and bright acidity. An elegant, polished wine that is showing beautifully but also has exceptional cellar potential.

Factors beyond normal viticultural measurements are the hallmark of the 2020 vintage. After a warm, dry winter, rain and cold weather did not arrive until the end of March. The early spring gave a significant head start to the vintage, and summer brought cool mornings and very warm days…perfect growing conditions. This ideal start was interrupted by two wildfires in August and September. Fortunately, our vineyards located further south and on the Valley floor were better situated to weather these elements. While a challenging harvest, it proved to be a winemaker’s vintage, and those with the experience and unaffected grapes made classic Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. We are very fortunate to be among them.
