Stormy Weather is a boutique Napa Valley label founded and owned by winemaker Cameron Woodbridge, whose brother Jayson is the founder of Hundred Acre. The winery does not own any vineyard land; instead, it sources from premium sites ranging from the southern end of Napa Valley north to Calistoga. All wines produced under the Stormy Weather label are 100% varietal, and Cameron’s commitment to quality is such that he has skipped vintages rather than release fruit that did not meet his standards.
The 2019 growing season saw very few extreme heat events, with foggy mornings setting the stage for vibrant and expressive wines. The long, relatively mild finish to the season, not without its moments of unpredictability, helped to preserve freshness and finesse in the fruit, with abundant hang time teasing out great color, structure, and soft tannins.
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Stormy Weather is deep garnet-purple in color, leaping with vibrant blackcurrant and juicy blackberry notes plus wafts of wild sage, lavender, and cedar chest. The full-bodied palate is bold and beautiful, with a velvety texture and just enough freshness, finishing long and spicy (95 pts, Lisa Perrotti-Brown). Jeb Dunnuck noted lots of cassis, spicy oak, and espresso notes, describing it as a 100% varietal that spent 30 months in new French oak barrels, with medium to full body, ripe tannins, and a great finish.
