Avast, mateys – it’s a new vintage of Pirate TreasuRed! The first year I worked on this wine, 2007, the result was not what I expected, but something even better. Because the original blend used seven varietals, the ‘Treasure of the Seven Seas’ idea was a natural inspiration for the Pirate name. Each year the blend changes slightly – for the 2022 vintage, I used 6 varietals to create this big, bold, raucous blend that stands out because of its finesse and complexity. It’s been a wonderful 14 vintages of spreading good Pirate cheer and of course, simply the best grog this side of Davey Jones’ Locker. We hope you love this latest edition of Pirate TreasuRed. Arrrrrr!

The 2022 Pirate is deep ruby in color, with enticing aromas of blackberry pie, black cherry and plum, with a touch of earthiness. Black fruit driven with some toasty french oak enhancements and nice layering of the blend components. Flavors are big and bold – dense blackberry-type fruit and some savory notes across the palate reminds me of a GSM blend with hints of chinese 5-spice, cranberry, and a touch of vanilla. Really nice length and balance in this fun red blend.
