The Lopez Vineyard sits on the east side of the Oakville AVA, nestled into the foothills that transition from the Vaca Range to the valley floor. The 0.8-acre site is famous for its red dirt, rich in iron and clay, producing textured wines of unique character. Planted in 2000 with Cabernet Sauvignon vines hand-tended under CCOF (California Certified Organic Farming) guidelines, the vineyard achieved full organic certification in 2013.
The 2016 vintage was a winemaker’s dream harvest: a strong fruit set preceded even ripening conditions and a near-perfect growing season. Only 83 cases were crafted from this exceptional year.
Dark garnet-ruby in color, the wine opens with prolific aromas of kirsch, plum preserve, cassis, cocoa, fresh mushrooms, anise, and fenugreek. Molasses, Madagascar vanilla, and easter lily emerge as the wine opens with time in the glass. On the palate, flavors of black cassis, elderberry, raspberry compote, tarragon, sage, and feijoa are supported by silky, mouth-filling tannins, with brighter flavors and a lively perception of acidity carrying through to an enduring, polished finish.
