The Zinfandel wine grapes originate from the Speedy Creek Vineyards in northeastern Sonoma County that is high up on the volcanic ash laden ridge lines of the Knights Valley Appellation. The vines have been nurtured here for more than 12 years, and we have been sourcing our Zinfandel from here for the past four years. The 2011 vintage was a complex and cool growing year. The cooler growing days and cool evenings contribute to the dark fruit flavors and the soft, balanced acidity of the wine, which spent 16 months in French, American, and Hungarian oak barrels.
Dark berry flavors of cherry, plum and blackberry, coupled with Asian spice and dark chocolate notes, round out the palate of this wine. The firm tannins linger easily with the fruit and chocolate notes.
