This wine is produced from our estate vineyard in the Kalimna area of the Barossa Valley. The area is home to some of Australia’s greatest Shiraz vineyards. Known for its unforgiving soils we felt it a perfect site to help pioneer the Zinfandel grape into Australia. The vines were grown in a traditional head-trained method, commonly referred to as “bush vines” in Australia. This training produces lower yields and more concentrated berries.

2012 was a spectacular vintage for red wines in the Barossa Valley. Some winemakers touting it as one of the best 3 vintages ever. We had near perfect weather conditions throughout the growing season. The cool wet summer of 2011 set low yields for the following 2012 season. Cool conditions in 2012 gave a long ideal climate to maximize flavor and fruit concentration, easily ripening the small crop.

Our Zinfandel is quite a unique wine. The nose is unmistakably Zinfandel in fruit character. The 2012 is undoubtedly the best we have made. . Due to the cooler climate and smaller than usual berries the color is rich and vibrant. The nose displays aromas of red fruit and spice with a touch of anise. The wine is medium bodied and structured with bright acidity, finishing with soft tannins. This is an awesome food wine that will compliment rather than over power almost any dish. We recommend enjoying it now and for the next 5 years

94 Point Review - James Halliday Bush Block because Groom knows Zinfandel hates being put on a trellis, only performing as a bush vine. This has fragrant briar rose aromas, and a red berry palate that is special to well made and grown Zinfandel.
