The Erba Syrah is fast becoming the rising star of the property. A prestigious wine from the moment it’s poured, this wine displays as array of Rhône Valley attributes, with the dominant fruit forward characteristic of Napa Valley. Bold levels of black cherry, coffee, leather and smoked meat show immediately. It’s the first spin of the glass that unveils a second layer of bittersweet chocolate and cedar. The silky palate offers flavors of the sweet mountain fruit and terroir and that you would expect from collection worthy wines of the Northern Rhône.

94 Point Review - Master Somm Catherine Fallis Napa Valley Syrah is often super-ripe with bright red berry fruit, toasty oak, and perhaps a bit of peppery spice, similar to the best Australian Shiraz. This Syrah, grown above the fog line on the Eastern side of Atlas Peak, is far more complex, partially due to its age, and partially to its prime vineyard site. It has notes of raisin, fig, dark chocolate, black olive, forest floor, chestnut, cinnamon, nutmeg, cedar, and mulch in addition to its sweet ripe cherry fruit. It is Bordeaux-like in feel, high alcohol aside, with soft-grained oak tannins and a long cherry and cedar-imbued finish. This wine is ready to drink now with a little aeration, having matured at the winery until this point. Enjoy a nine-year old Syrah without having to age it yourself!
