The beautiful terraces of Nuns Cliff Vineyard arise at 1400 feet, high above the cliffs overlooking Nuns Canyon. The west facing vineyard slopes are planted in red volcanic soils, considered by many winemakers to be the best Cabernet Sauvignon ground on the Mayacamas Mountain Range dividing Sonoma Valley and Napa Valley.

Our powerful mountain-style red wines are produced in small open-topped stainless steel fermenters in which the cap of grape skins is punched down by hand to extract deep violet color and rich tannin. Punching down during fermentation targets the elegant tannin of the skins that rise to the top of the tank, rather than over-extracting the bitter green tannin from the seeds that sink to the bottom of the tank.

Blue/black in the glass, the wine exhales a heady perfume of juicy black fruits, toffee, and spicy notes of peppercorn and sage. Watkins Family Winery is a family-owned winery in Sonoma County, specializing in limited production wines from hillside vineyards. Our goal is to produce wines that are finely balanced with regard to ripe fruit, quality tannin, and natural acidity - ultimately striving to express the pure flavors of their vineyard origin.

90 Point Review - Wine Enthusiast (Previous Vintage) What’s so likable about this Cabernet is the dryness and the overall balance, which is stylish and elegant. It keeps the blackberry and black currant fruit in check with earthier tones of tobacco and olives.
