In 2011, we harvested the grapes in two lots-the first pick was on September 13th and the second occurred 2 weeks later. The wine went through primary barrel fermentation in 25% new French oak with the remainder of the barrels being neutral oak. Once dry, malolactic fermentation was prevented to preserve the natural balance of acidity and opulence. It went on to age for ten months in neutral oak before bottling.

The six acre Michael Mara Vineyard is a partnership between Idell Family Vineyard and Steve Matthiasson. Planted in 2006, the complex and rocky soil is both within the Sonoma Coast and Sonoma Valley AVA’s. This prime terroir lends itself to rich chardonnay fruit with great character. Wine is produced from the Michael Mara Vineyard by several small wine producers including the following:
