What today is Silenus Winery began in 1967 as a walnut orchard. The orchard was converted to Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards and the grapes were sold to Robert Mondavi, Inglenook and Clos du Val. After discovering that the grapes ended up in the various wineries’ reserve wines, the Newlan Winery was born with their first release in 1980. In 2006, Silenus Winery took the reigns of this historic vineyard and winery. The results have been impressive ever since.
The vineyards for Danais are all located in the Oak Knoll District of the Napa Valley. The Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot are estate grown, and 60% of the blend is estate grown Cabernet Sauvignon clones 45, 4 & 8 with the remaining balance of Cabernet coming from a vineyard located adjacent to Silenus Winery’s estate, all clone 337.
