The 2013, our fifth vintage, gave us the same near-perfect growing season as 2012, but with the additional benefit of a smaller crop. This led to a wine of the same pinpoint balance, but with more depth and complexity.
The nose is fresh and pleasantly herbal, like new-mown hay, but with an almost electric quality, like the air after a rainstorm. There’s fruit in abundance: ripe granny smith apple, candied pineapple, and lemon custard are the initial highlights.
Full and rich in the mouth, it turns to white mulberry, poached pear, even a touch of gingerbread. The perfect union of citrus and herb qualities remind one of sorrel.
On the finish, a salted caramel essence quickly turns crisp, bright, and clean.
Fabulous with fresh oysters, seared scallops and poached salmon. Compliments dishes with light cream sauces, wild mushrooms, beurre blanc and fresh cheeses. At the ranch we enjoy it alongside bruschetta with fresh ricotta, carmelized onion, smoked figs and fresh oregano.
