Dark cherry, blueberry and raspberry jam, with barrel notes of cedar and baking spices. The medium body supports soft tannins and moderate acidity creates a fresh and balanced finish.

Vineyard Notes

For this inaugural vintage of Forward Kidd, fruit was sourced from soil types including Forward Gravelly Loam, Kidd Loam, Millsholm Loam and Tehama Silt Loam found in the eastern slopes of the Napa Valley (Vaca Mountains), sites featuring Haire Loam in the Oak Knoll and Carneros AVAs, and a vineyard in the northern valley with Bale Loam formed from the alluvial fan at the base of the Palisades Mountains.

Generally, these soils are well drained, rocky and gravelly, containing shale fragments and weathered sandstone. The devigoring affects of deep, well drained soils combined with careful crop and canopy management focus the vine’s energy on the fruit, producing intense, concentrated berries full of flavor.
