This wine showcases a deep ruby red tone which draws you into its dark cherry cola and subtle mint aromatics. The palate is concentrated, even firm, given its great acidity. Flavors of red huckleberry, orange zest and bergamot linger on the long finish.
This is a gorgeous rendition of Russian River, with so much ripe red fruit, cinnamon-graham and cola accents. It’s a big one, but the acidity and tannin are especially soft thanks to this special vintage. Absolutely delectable right now, but promising results for those who stash this wine for a few years.
Vineyard Notes
Cyprus Pinot Noir is sourced from Hurst Vineyard, nestled in the Sebastopol Hills of Russian River Valley. A phenomenal vineyard planted with the Pommard, 777, and 115 clones of Pinot Noir in Goldridge soil, Hurst has a steep eastern exposure that guarantees long, slow ripening.
The soil has a dark, yellowish, fine, sandy loam surface over a subsoil of golden yellow, sandy loam and fractured sandstone, with a high mineral content that drains well and guarantees just the right amount of vine stress for exceptional Pinot Noir.
Hurst is known for deeper, richer Pinot Noirs, with more body and rounder texture. The microclimate also produces a signature spiciness that calls to mind aromatic Moroccan cuisine – sweetly spicy and intoxicating.
This part of Sebastopol is known for producing a riper, more wholesome Pinot, as evidenced by Hurst’s neighbors, a who’s-who of big-bodied Pinot Noir, which includes Kanzler (Kosta Browne), Umino (Chasseur), Martinelli, and even the Meredith Estate (Merry Edwards).
