Our 2014 Viognier has exotic aromas of citrus blossom, ripe pear and lilies. A light viscosity across the palate is a result of the 50% malolactic fermentation that occurred in the barrel-aged lot. We picked at low brix to keep the alcohol low and maintain an above-average acidity for the varietal.
The result is a really fresh wine with powerful fruit character and tropical aromas. The crisp, bright acidity and clean finish lend well to pairing with spicy cuisine, pasta or seafood… or on its own. Drink this dry white wine young and well chilled.
Vineyard Notes
Our Monterey vineyards are located in the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA, near the town of Monterey. The Santa Lucia Highlands are perfectly suited for growing white Rhone grapes and Viognier in particular. The climate has consistently warm daytime temperatures and is heavily influenced by the morning fog and afternoon winds from the nearby Pacific Ocean. This helps ensure slow and even ripening in the vineyard.
Ours is a cool site with little rainfall and one of the longest growing seasons in the world. Our unusual climate allows us to produce ripe, concentrated wines of exceptional balance.
