A bright magenta hue with aromas of brambly red berries, dark cherry, plum, violet, rose, red currant and spice. In the mouth, bursting, lifted flavors of macerated red berries are complicated with spice notes and highlighted by brilliant acidity.
This medium weight wine shows both the power and grace, a classic Zinfandel characteristic. In the long and concentrated finish, find notes of cassis liqueur, and red and purple fruits.
Vineyard Notes
Kirschenmann Vineyard was planted in 1915 to head-trained, dry-farmed Zinfandel. Fine, ashen-colored sandstone soils gilt with flecks of silica as the Lodi sun ripens small, concentrated berries. The vineyard’s proximity to an oxbow in the Mokelumne River affords a more moderate, Mediterranean climate and relatively low temperatures.
The combination of water deficiency, sandy soils, and moderate temperatures yield medium-bodied Zinfandel. The aromatics are high-toned and perfumed with a good amount of spice; the acidity is fresh, and harmonious with the tannin structure.
Own-rooted and organically farmed, Kirschenmann is owned by vineyard specialist and Turley Wine Cellars winemaker, Tegan Passalacqua, and his wife, Olivia.
