The 2011 Syrah is an aromatic kaleidoscope. the first aromas are of ripe nectarine and tangerine, followed rapidly by white pepper, coriander seed ad green cardamom. As the the wine evolves in the glass, notes of rose hips, black plum and anise join the array.

On the palate the wine’s mineral center is layered with flavors of blood orange, black cherry and loganberry, finishing with just a hint of tar and espresso.

The wine’s intense and exotic flavors will marry well with game, duck, wild mushrooms and the like.

Our Syrah is a field blend of 75% Syrah, 9% Grenache, 13% Mourvedre, and 3% Viognier, which were hand harvested and then sorted at the winery. The several varieties were co-fermented with indigenous yeast in an open-top fermentor, managed with twice daily punchdowns, allowed to stay 10 days on the skins before pressing to two-year old french oak barrels.

The wine underwent malolactic fermentation in barrel and remained in barrel for approximately 20 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.
