Vineyard Notes

Jackson Estate wines showcase our cherished vineyard estate properties located on rare, coastal California terroir of mountain tops, ridges, hillsides and raised benchland soils. This limited release allows our winemakers to emphasize the extraordinary terroir of our unique properties and craft very small lots for refined palates.

Sourced from the ridge along the westward face of the volcanically-derived Mayacamas Mountains, Hawkeye Mountain vineyard is perched high above the valley floor on drastic slopes at an elevation of 900 - 2200 feet. Fog strains to reach the chilled top of the vineyard area, resulting in large temperature swings daily, which are only tempered by the constant winds driven by the Pacific Ocean. This results in cool mornings that gradually lead to warm nights in this mountainous area above the fogline.

The soil is shallow, rocky and gravelly loam on steep hillsides, with some terracing.
