We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Sam Sebastiani (yes, from that Sebastiani family!) back to our pages, with the release of his nearly perfect La Chertosa Wines 2010 Sonoma Valley Reserve Sangiovese.
This is an aromatic, juicy, silky smooth wine that took our recent tasting panel by storm. We adore this wine!
Super warm and beautifully lush on the nose, with lovely aromatics of spiced black cherry candy, chocolate covered strawberry, spice box, blackberry, hibiscus black tea, smoked blueberry, subtle dried beef and a hint of white pepper.
What a delight on the palate, with rich flavors of black cherry cordial, chocolate covered cherry, summer forest, dried leaves, clay mineral, blueberry compote, spice box, hibiscus tea, young strawberry and cracked pepper.
Until 2008, the Sebastiani Family had the distinction of being the oldest, continually-operated, family-run winery in California. Indeed, the family has become American wine royalty. With first plantings going back to the 1906 founding of the original winery, Sebastiani is one of the oldest names in wine.
Today, three generations in, Sam Sebastiani is crafting wines that harken farther back in the family’s history - back to their Italian heritage. Sam’s La Chertosa Wines 2010 Sonoma Valley Reserve Sangiovese is a wine that is a delectable homage to the wines of La Chertosa di Farneta, the twelfth century monastery near Lucca, Italy. Sonoma County, where today’s modern classic was made, enjoys climate and soil conditions that closely mimic those of the historic winery.

Deep dark garnet, with lighter, slightly brickish red edges.
Spiced black cherry candy, chocolate covered strawberry, spice box, blackberry, hibiscus black tea, smoked blueberry, subtle dried beef and a hint of white pepper.
Black cherry cordial, chocolate covered cherry, summer forest, dried leaves, clay mineral, blueberry compote, spice box, hibiscus tea, young strawberry and cracked pepper.
Extra long, with medium tannin. Fruit flavors last almost as long as the spice and earthy elements - meaning forever! After the flavors fade, a soft, crushed velvet dryness remains.
This is an obvious choice for pasta dishes of all sorts, but we’ll also enjoy ours as a before dinner treat while cooking and entertaining.
