2006 Sempre Vive "Eugenia" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
California: Napa Valley
The fume of sighs
Happy Super Spy Sunday!
Are you ready for a very impressive, perfectly aged, lots-of-life-left-in-it wine from our friends at Romeo Vineyards? We’ve got their flagship wine, the rich, delicious and elegant Romeo Vineyards 2006 Sempre Vive “Eugenia” Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine has an amazing depth of fruit and flavor!
So fragrant for an aged Cabernet, with inviting aromas of dark plum, black cherry tobacco leaf, grilled blackberry, smoked meat, cassis, graphite, leather, tutti-frutti, and a hint of black pepper. Dark, rich flavors prevail, with Black cherry, smoky blueberry, ripe blackberry, hard leather, rich dried herbs, grilled meat, dark spice, and black pepper.
This wine is Romeo Vineyards’ flagship wine, made from their most precious vines - that produce a scant quantity of incredible grapes. Romeo Vineyards produced their first vintage in 1997. Since that time, the already old Cabernet Sauvignon vines have matured, but so too has the winery’s winemaking skills.
Very highly recommended!
Like a glass filled with rubies, with a perfectly translucent, gemlike core.

This one has a really complex finish! This wine has a very soft and silky initial entry, followed by a very dynamic - even dramatic and extended conclusion. Initial dark fruits are darker, fuller and more rich than one might expect from an aged Cab. These fall off fairly fast, changing from fresh fruit to flavors more akin to dried or even grilled fruits. As these delicious fruits fade, more savory flavors come on strong. Enigmatically, fruits return - and then stick around for a spell, eventually tailing off.
Enjoy this fantastic wine with a dry aged Porterhouse steak, prepared with a green peppercorn sauce! Or enjoy it all on its own. It is really fun to sip and discuss a wine like this, observing changes as the wine opens up.
