The 2013 wine is purple, with no rim variation. There is medium extraction, and it is not fully opaque in color.
On the nose, the wine has a moderate perfume of stewed plums and cherry pie. There is a wet leave, forest floor note, not seen in the 2012. Again, there is no evidence of new oak, and I would guess the same barrel aging regimen occurred.
On the palate, the wine is fairly high toned, with red and black fruits. There is a note of sassafrass as well. There is medium tannin, medium acid, and a light body.
This wine is in what I like to call “the valley”. Wine, especially wine made in a more natural approach, goes through ebbs and flows. I would hold this wine and re-visit in six months.
