The wines from Comptche Ridge are almost completely earthbound, and the initial aromatics are somewhat hard to discern. On aeration, hints of Chinese five-spice and orange blossom begin to emerge, slowly deepening with time in the glass. The palate offers a rich brew of tart red fruit flavors tangling with underlying notes of rooibos tea and fennel seed. Integrated acids and planed tannins give the wine a broad, even backpalate. We’d suggest aging the wine a minimum of three years.
