At Cast we are making two Zinfandels in different styles. Our Grey Palm Vineyard Zinfandel is an easy drinking, bright, reach-for-it-now wine. It’s the perfect weeknight dinner wine–just get the burgers or steak on the grill and you are ready to go.

Tasting Notes:

The newest release of our popular estate Zinfandel is fresh and youthful. The nose elicits the scents of raspberry, Bing cherry and rose petals. In the mouth plum, black pepper and nutmeg dance on the tongue. For a young wine the finish is soft, pleasing and well balanced.

Mike really wanted to showcase the fruit he was tasting in the vineyard. He felt the bright fruit notes that came through when he was tasting shouldn’t get lost in the winemaking process. And they clearly did not.

Vineyard:

Our Grey Palm Estate vineyard, named for the massive old Canary Island Date Palm that towers above the vines, is in the heart of Sonoma County’s renowned Dry Creek Valley appellation. The vine rows run up a sunny, south-facing, gravelly hillside at the narrow end of the valley, just below Lake Sonoma. These Zinfandel grape vines have a truly noble lineage, having been planted in 2003 using budwood sourced from the ancient, 125 year-old vines at St. Peter Church, just up the road in Cloverdale. Ulises Valdez originally planted the vineyard and has managed the vines with care ever since.
