Tasting Notes

This release bridges a gap between both red and dark fruit characteristics while showing a dash of baking spice and vanilla from the oak program. It has a vibrant acidity that gives it a mouth-watering characteristic and creates an excellent opportunity to pair up with food.

Production Notes

The 2012 Merlot grapes were harvested in early September, a few weeks earlier than the previous two vintages. Six smaller lots were created in half-ton macro bins for fermentation, which lasted 9-14 days depending on the lot. Once Dry individual lots were drained and pressed off for barrel aging.

Once and twice used French oak barrels were utilized to maintain the awesome fruit characteristics but add a subtle touch of oak character. The 2012 release was also left unfined and unfiltered to provide added complexity and character.

Aging Potential

Aging is always a moving target but based on the characteristics this Merlot exhibits it is very enjoyable now but can easily cellar for 7, 10 or more years. If you enjoy your wines with more punch and structure drink sooner. If you prefer more earthiness and smoother wines let it sit.
