Tasting Notes

Brilliant amethyst in color with a complex nose offering an array of fruit and spice aromas, this inviting wine is lively and vibrant. Bright cherry, brambly blackberry, blueberry, raspberry and violet notes are supported by cedar, sandalwood and mocha, and complemented by cherry compote. The soft, supple tannins lead to a silky finish with a hint of chocolate. Our Black Glass Zinfandel is as playful as it is complex.

Vintage

The 2015 growing season started early in Napa Valley. As California entered its fourth year of drought, we were fortunate to receive spring rains sufficient to fill our reservoir and saturate the soil. Consistent sun and warmth throughout the growing season led to an early crop of high-quality grapes.

Winemaking

Our estate Black Glass Vineyard Zinfandel takes its name from the obsidian that surfaces in the vineyard after each rain. In the winery we treat our Zinfandel as gently as our Sangiovese. We ferment in open top tanks and gently punch down twice each day. When the fermentation is complete the wine matures in neutral French oak barrels.

Pairings

This wine will pair beautifully with black pepper-crusted grilled chicken, wild mushroom pizza and marinated salmon burgers.
