Almost entirely from the original plantings in Block W of Clone 4 at the iconic Bien Nacido Vineyard, these 40 year old vines are producing magical qualities that only can come from old vines. A small percentage of younger vine Clone 96 from the beautiful Presqu’ile Vineyard is also part of the final blend. Density and concentration combine to form a very flavorful and nuanced wine.
Because of the restraint in the cellar of opting to use neutral barrel (older oak) and stainless steel, the wine has plenty of freshness, vibrancy and salinity that are hallmarks of the ocean influences we receive in the Santa Maria Valley. For those who appreciate the citrusy and minerally side of this grape will love how this wine pops on the palate giving it distance and drive. This wine comes from a very old vineyard on the western edge of the Santa Maria Valley and was fermented and aged in 100% French oak for 31 months. Classic in style with great citrus aromatics.
