Tasting notes
We love this vintage of Chardonnay. Our intention of using more new oak to give body and texture to the wine, while not overpowering worked out great. This wine has really pretty fruit on the nose. Scents of pear, apple, lemon curd, and pineapple along with a background of caramel and vanilla make this wine very inviting. There is a caramel creaminess on the palate. The body is full, but the fruit really shines through, along with some allspice. A classic California Chardonnay, especially when you like them big and round.
Winemaking Notes
We barrel ferment our Chardonnay in a combination of 100% new French oak. This Chardonnay is kept on the lees and the lees stirred twice monthly until bottling. All of the wine is allowed to go through Malolactic Fermentation giving us an opulent Chardonnay with great mouthfeel.
Vineyard Notes
Our Chardonnay is grown in our Fig Tree Vineyard at the base of Howell Mountain in the St. Helena Appellation, a location we feel very well suited to big rich full bodied Napa Valley Chardonnay. The soils in this vineyard contain high potassium levels. This allows for a higher pH in the finished wine while holding good acidity. It is the perfect situation to yield our reserve quality Chardonnay.
