Mission Codename Bon Beaune
Back with another Burgundy blowout Operatives! Bargains from the Côte-d’Or are getting rarer as the world’s most coveted and original Pinot Noir region produces diminishing crops, yet we seem to have hit a vein of gold with Moillard-Grivot’s 2013s! The secret we let you in on with the hugely popular Fixin led us to unveil a couple more gems of equal caliber. We’re in Ladoix-Serrigny this time, within proximity to the historic township of Beaune where the heart of the Burgundy trade beats, and the Grand Crus of Corton just due West. This single vineyard is precious, like FAR more precious than $15.99, to say the least because it is surrounded by neighboring Grand Cru and Premier Crus! There’s a tiny amount, so ACT FAST.
Burgundy to the core, as in the region that named the color, with scarlet highlights. An intense quintessence of Burgundy with red fruits and savory spices intermingling. The perfect marriage of succulent cherry, currant, licorice, leather, flint, and spices. Shows pedigree, balance and a vibrant structure, through a well-integrated long finish. This terrific red over-delivers but don’t let that fool you, pair with lavish French classics.
As we pointed out before, Burgundy can get really complicated, where the notion of terroir was born in the Middle Ages and the village and the vineyard matter above all else. This Ladoix is a Village level Burgundy, a mid-tier level of quality, sitting right in between the Regional and Cru classifications. What matters next in Burgundy is the vintage - 2013 for reds, according to Jancis Robinson was; “The fairy-tale vintage?” Hundreds of 2013 Burgundies I have tasted to date are generally delightfully terroir-specific. From the right addresses, wines for true Burgundy lovers.” Of equal importance is the producer. The Moillard and Grivot partnership dates back to the French Revolution! Since their inception, they have focused on growing and sourcing some of the best grapes to showcase the great terroirs they bottle.
