Location

In the heart of the Côte Chalonnaise, Mercurey is one of the most important wine appellations of Burgundy.

Soil Type

Clay and limestone surface soil, deep lying marl.

Vineyards

The vineyards are situated between 230 and 320 meters above sea level. Average age of the vines: 35 years. The vines are worked using sustainable viticulture and harvest is by hand.

Vinification

Traditional vinification in thermo-regulated stainless steel. Pre-fermentation - cold maceration. Long fermentation during which pigeages and pumping over are performed. Aged in oak barrels for 12 months. 20% new oak and 80% oak barrels used between 1 and 5 times. The oak is mainly sourced from the Vosges region.

Tasting Notes

Red in colour with purple hues. Aromatic intensity with fruity and roasted notes. The aromas of freshly ground coffee, black fruit and spice can be found on the palate. The structure is precise, full on the attack and more prevalent on the finish. Beautiful wine with typical characteristics of the Chalonnaise region! Perfect with entrecote steak, beef and lamb (braised or stewed - such as beef- bourguignon), slow roasted pork and poultry. The Mercurey also accompanies exotic dishes.
