Grown in the southern part of the Moon Mountain District of Sonoma Valley. This 40-year-old vineyard thrives on the terrace resulting in a wine showing spice, berries, and dry herb aromas. This 2014 vintage has a rich mouthfeel and lengthy finish with a brambly start, then showing ripe berry flavors.

Peter Haywood planted Los Chamizal Vineyard in 1976, this vineyard is situated in the mountains of Southern Sonoma Valley, in the Moon Mountain District AVA one mile north of Sonoma. The beautiful terraced vines are carved into steeply sloping hillsides reaching 800 ft. in elevation. The soils range from well-drained sandy clay loams at the lower elevations to thin fractured basalt soils at the highest elevations where our wine comes from. With a modestly warm climate throughout the day, with the vines enjoying the cooler evening air, which preserves higher acidity levels in the grapes. Los Chamizal is a sustainable vineyard, using permanent cover crops, compost, and organic fertilizers to nurture the soil.

Winemaking: The grapes they were de-stemmed into a small open top tank. There was a cold soak period of about 4 days. As the grapes began to warm the uninoculated fermentation started and
was punched down by hand two or three times a day until fermentation was complete. The long fermentation ended with a week of extended maceration to integrate the tannins. The wine was pressed off the skins on October 21st directly to barrels. Malolactic fermentation was completed in barrels in the Spring.
