PHILOSOPHY Using grapes grown in Mendocino County’s rugged coastal mountains, Edmeades crafts bold, intense Zinfandels of distinctive character and personality. We work side by side with a small group of farmers, who year after year produce some of Mendocino County’s most highly prized grapes. We prefer a delicate touch in our cellar, allowing each vineyard to be fully expressed in the wines we make.

HISTORY Edmeades is famous for its limited bottlings of iconoclastic Zinfandels from the coastal mountain vineyards of Mendocino County. Dr. Edmeades planted his first 11 acres of vineyards in 1963. He founded his winery and launched his own brand in 1972. The Jackson Family purchased Edmeades in 1988 and brought current winemaker Ben Salazar on board in 2012.

VINEYARD If the “hand tended” block of the Perli Vineyard were located at a ski resort, it would be considered double black diamond. With grades approaching 60% and soils that are more rock than soil, this steep site is one of the most radical in all of California. First planted in the late 1800s by Santo and Rosie Perli, this southwest-facing, high altitude (1500 feet) vineyard is a mere 10 miles from the Pacific Ocean.

NOTES Aromas of fresh blackberries, black currants, cedar, and spicy forest hardwoods blend together in the glass. On the palate, blackberry liqueur and plum flavors are complimented by a slightly smoky and meaty character. The wine has ripe, soft tannins, and a mouthwatering acidity.
