Refugio Ranch is a 415 acre former cattle ranch, nestled into the north face of the Santa Ynez Mountains, with the Santa Ynez River serving as the northern property line. In 2004 the Gleason Family planted a select 28 acres of the ranch to vineyards. All of our vineyards are farmed and harvested by hand, with a focus on low yields and concentration of fruit. The majority of the estate is unplanted, allowing for a spaciousness and natural, rugged beauty that is quintessential Santa Ynez Valley.
With great depth, intensity, and complexity, our flagship red blend offers seductive, layered aromatics presenting a mélange of dark berries, black cherry, and plum skin alongside hints of violet, baking spices, tapenade, seared meat, white pepper, and coffee bean. The palate is beautifully balanced with a lovely mix of fruit and savory, it’s bold with lush tannins and great acidity bringing length and freshness. Stunning wine which is best decanted when young and certainly has great aging potential.
