Since its inception in the 1970s and up until the 2009 vintage when it was discontinued, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars’ second label Hawk Crest has built a reputation for crafting approachable, fruit-forward, quality, affordable wines.

This intense and concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon is made from fruit carefully selected from California’s most promising growing regions including Red Hills in Lake County. The Red Hills AVA vineyards just 15 miles north of Nap Valley. Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars has produced Hawk Crest since 1974 with the goal of affordable and approachable wines. The Red Hill Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards produce structured and concentrated wines, rich in character. Red Hills AVA was created in 2004, as a distinct viticultural area within the greater Lake County. The most distinguishing character of the sub-region is the soil, composed of red lava from ancient volcanoes.

Red currants, cocoa powder, and earthy chaparral entice on the nose and continue onto the palate. The tannins are restrained and complemented by vanillin oak on the finish.
