VINIFICATION NOTES: The zinfandel fruit was handpicked at optimal ripeness on September 26th, hand sorted and placed into tank for a five day cold soak, during which pumpovers were performed once daily. The cold soak was followed by a 15-day fermentation, with morning punchdowns and evening pumpovers. Aging occured in French oak barrels, 20% new for 20 months before being blended with 8% syrah from Big River Ranch.
SENSORY NOTES:Alluring, dark blackberry fruit opens this wine, followed by cocoa and vanilla. Earthy notes lead into a chewy mouthfeel with soft, supple tannins.
VINEYARD NOTES:The 2013 Ru’s Farm zinfandel was sourced from some of the best vineyards in Russian River Valley. Here, cooler morning fog blankets the valley, while warmer days allows for a longer growing season. The zinfandel for this wine comes from head-trained, old vines whose production has slowed to allow for more concentrated, complex fruit. RETAIL PRICE: $38. 315 cases produced
