Mission Codename Tête-à-tête
The world over, it’s accepted that Provence = Rosé. That’s why an esteemed establishment such as Champagne Pommery invests there to make exquisite examples of it. So we brought you, on Rosé Day a textbook Tête de Cuvée as in a top of the line flagship, from the venerable Château La Gordonne.
A classic “Pretty in Pink” hue that straddles between a lively shade of blush and deep, pale coral. Fresh cut watermelon, tangerine peel and cranberry complicated by wet stone and sweet spices. A tasty potpourri of red cherry fruit, along with strawberry, light spice and a touch of chamomile. Medium-bodied, intense and long, with persistent notes of nectarine, key lime, and white pepper. The ultimate summer quaffer this is, think bacon-wrapped scallops or prawns with mint and feta.
The recently founded Pierrefeu sector to the west of Côtes de Provence is where the terroir is truly exceptional for decadent styles of rosé.
Here’s what the wine press has to say:
91 Points – Wine Enthusiast - “Named after the chapel at the Gordonne vineyard, this wine—which is relatively deep-pink in color for a Provence rosé—is soft, packed with ripe red-berry fruits and a generous richness. A touch of spice gives it a rounded finish. Drink now.”
#16 - VinePair’s Top Wines of 2018 “Lychee-pink color, very pale and limpid. The nose has great finesse. Pink grapefruit and linden blossom notes reveal this wine’s very rich mineral quality in a poetic evocation of the sun rising over the Provence garrigue on a summer day. On the palate, the wine is ample and balanced around sensations of freshness, delicacy and sweetness. It is bursting with small fresh fruits such as the arbutus berries on the wooded hillsides of the schist terroir of the Château la Gordonne. The long, pleasant finish expresses the finesse and flavour of a wild strawberry sorbet.”
