Mission Codename Anthill 1
For those in the know – you already know. This doesn’t happen!!! Not one. Not two. Or three or four…
But SEVEN Anthill Farms Wines?! NO JOKE!
Anthill Farms is ultra-rare, small production, and highly sought after. We recommend you add this to your cart right away, and any other picks ALL FOUND IN OUR STORE. Then check out and come back to get your background knowledge so you don’t miss out.
If you have the App (you should) there’s a hidden gem in there, too.
“we do not have a public tasting room. email us to inquire…”
That’s what you see when you load their website. Almost zero information. Anthill Farms is about as exclusive, underground, and avant-garde as a winery can get. Made in a taut, lean, terroir and mineral-driven style, all it takes is one sip to understand why they’re among the most coveted Pinots and Chards in the area.
The Wall Street Journal calls them out as “The Rock Stars of Pinot Noir.” Wine-searcher recently listed them among “The Best Value Sonoma Wines of 2025”. Their wines are restricted almost entirely to their mailing list, with a small amount allocated to top Michelin starred restaurants like Quince, The Progress, The French Laundry, and Spruce.
Even Burghound, THE expert on all things Burgundian, is a big fan and rates these wines as high as Grand Crus, raving “This winery’s first vintage was 2004 and is the brainchild of three former William-Selyem employees. Their stated goal is to produce wines that express clearly a sense of place, and their primary interest is working with fruit that comes from cool climate and low vigor hillside vineyards while using some whole clusters in the vinification. As I’ve stated before, in my view, these guys are on to something, and if you’re not on the mailing list, it would be a good one to sign up for, as I have a feeling that we’re only going to see better things…”
But today only… we have a whole STORE FULL OF THEM!
How did this miracle happen, you ask? Our dear Agent Brut has been a member of their list for years, and after hundreds (ok, maybe thousands) of inquiries, they finally relented and agreed to come by HQ. Tasting through the lineup of wines, every Agent was reduced to a humbled silence (yes, even Agent Cru).
Agent Brut’s Take: “Christmas came early this year. I felt like a kid again, running down the stairs, knowing today was the day. About a decade ago, a friend and mentor in the wine industry (shoutout to Blair Roche) introduced me to Anthill Farms. It was one of those true ‘aha’ moments - every single vineyard I tasted offered something unique, each more compelling than the last. I’ve never missed an allocation since.”
Today, I’m still in awe that Wine Spies gets to share Anthill Farms with you. This is a special one.”
Loaded with black cherry and blueberry, this Peters is redolent with wild herbal and forest floor complexity. The tannins strike somewhere between satiny and powdery, with a palate full of lush fruit and a sustained, layered finish.
This deal took more negotiating than usual, but they were convinced. Our Operatives deserve the chance to try their glorious nectar.
Founders David Low, Anthony Filiberti, and Webster ‘Web’ Marquez met in 2003 working in the cellar at William Selyem. Bonding over their love of wine and Pinot Noir, a road trip to Oregon together sealed the deal. They needed to produce their own wines. Not to call attention to themselves, but to highlight the best vineyards and terroir that Sonoma and Mendocino have to offer. In 2004, they made a scant eight barrels. And the rest… is history.
“These wines are gorgeous expressions of some of the top vineyard sites in Sonoma and Mendocino Counties.” raves Antonio Galloni of Vinous. “These are some of the most transparent, graceful Pinots being made in California today. Pricing remains quite fair within the context of top-echelon California Pinot.” echoes the Wine Advocate.
Production remains very small and focused on terroir, with methods varying from site to site and year to year. If they don’t like the quality of a given vintage, they won’t release it. And this commitment to quality and intent focus on site-specificity has earned them a cult-like following.
This site is named for Randy Peters, who farms it with his father-in-law. Outside of Sebastopol in Western Sonoma County, it’s on the northern edge of the Petaluma Gap – where the fog off the Bay often settles in the vineyards, slowing ripening to allow for long flavor development, giving the wine its layers of complexity. The 30+ year-old vines add further concentration and depth to this beauty.
Hopefully, you already grabbed some, but if you didn’t, NOW IS THE TIME!
If you need more convincing, just ask Agent Brut. Guarantee he’s already blown his daughter’s college fund on multiples of everything!
92 Points – Wine Advocate “The 2023 Pinot Noir Peters Vineyard has pure scents of blackberry, blueberry, conifer, Earl Grey tea leaves and damp earth. The medium-bodied palate is understated and perfumed, with elegant and chalky tannins, bright acidity and a long, layered finish. Drink 2025-2035.”
