Mission Codename Moday
“For those that love creatively crafted, truly artisanal Napa and Sonoma wines at sensible prices for the high level of quality, I can’t recommend Modus Operandi highly enough.” – The Wine Independent
Modus Monday in full effect! Dear friend of the Agents, rockstar winemaker, peptide pimpin’, muscle man Jason Moore is back…
This time with his 93-point Sonoma Coast Pinot that normally goes for $85. And it’s yours for under $30. This potent yet pure Pinot Noir is a sure bet to be plastered all over the Operative Hangout in the coming months, along with the “I should have bought more!” captions.
Approach with caution; per The Wine Palate, this wine “comes bounding out of the glass with exuberant notes…” and “bursts with bold blackberry” so do not wear white around it.
Do your future self a favor and get at least one or ten more bottles. And do it quickly because you know who else can’t recommend Modus Operandi highly enough? Geoff G., Mark S., and just about EVERY other Operative who just can’t get enough of his wines.
If you’re not part of the Modus Militia yet, this juicy puppy dog Pinot is a perfect initiator. His ‘Vicarious’ lineup is your gateway sipper. An affordable entry point into the winemaking world, but as Jason sees it. Fair warning, though: one sip and you’ll be hooked.
The “mad genius,” as Master of Wine Lisa Perotti-Brown described him, brings a winemaking approach true to his native Texas roots: BIG, open, warm, and expansive. No wimpy wines here, indeed.
In the glass, it’s all deep, bright ruby with crimson accents. REDOLENT with juicy red raspberries, Bing cherries, wildflowers, cotton candy, and a touch of…is that Thai basil?? Silky on the palate, voluptuous, star anise, and subtle earthiness giving it an attractive exoticism. Sweet floral nuances resonate, adding lift to the medium-bodied, impressively bodacious finish.
But like all Modus offers we get, there’s a very limited amount to go around.
A quick sellout is all but guaranteed.
93 Points – The Wine Palate “The 2023 Pinot Noir Vicarious is medium ruby-purple colored. It comes bounding out of the glass with exuberant notes of black cherries, mulberries, and pomegranate, followed by hints of dried herbs and wood smoke. The medium to full-bodied palate bursts with bold blackberry flavors, framed by plush tannins and a lively line, finishing on a savory chargrill note. Drink 2025-2032.”
