BTK @ $55 for a normally $199 Cab is NUTS. The only way we can do that is by going CLASSIFIED, again.

For obvious reasons, these wines can be so good, so scarce, or so exclusive that they must hide behind a closely guarded veil of secrecy. You rarely, if ever, see these bottles at a discount. And because some wineries are very price-sensitive, their mailing list members would go ballistic seeing a deep deal on it.

Unless…

We roll it out über-top-secret, black ops mission style.

Revealing the name would put our livelihood at stake. Our industry is built on relationships and not wanting to ruffle feathers; sometimes, it’s a necessary precaution to redact some of the information.

HOWEVER, we can drop a couple of major clues, and the savviest of you may figure it out. In fact, even the least savvy of you will probably figure this one out… We’ll keep making it easy today.

First clue: If you’re not a freshly minted Wine Spies Operative, you KNOW this label. You’ve seen it a few times on this site before. This time we hide it to get down to the lowest we have ever seen it.

Scores? This one has many and always crushes it as the flagship press darling in the lineup. Vinous calls these “super-expressive wines done in a sumptuous style that emphasizes textural richness and early approachability.”

Here is a collaboratively cryptic tasting note: “A rich, structured, tannic Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon… (Dunnuck) Seductive nose of wild currants, blackberries, dried herbs, cedar, and baking spices… (Suckling) A hefty To Kalon wine, made to impress in its youth, and while it seems to have the tannin structure to age, the ripeness of the fruit suggests early drinking is best… (Decanter) Pretty oral top notes lift the finish. (Vinous)”

Final clue, and the least subtle of all, this project was born in Bordeaux, and grew up in the US of A. I think we already said too much…
