Mission Codename Epic proportions

“Striking Napa wines.” – Decanter

“As good as some of the higher wines are, I am a big fan of some of the entry-level offerings, namely the 37.2.” – Vinous

A while ago, we were lamenting the fact that very few Right Bank style blends come out of Napa.

This might be the best example we’ve tasted, an inspiring blend with serious swerve to its curve, a plush, sexy, layered feel, and crazy complexity.

With 94 points from James Suckling, a top-tier winemaker at the helm, and rave reviews all over the web, plus a unanimous stamp of approval from every one of us at the tasting, this is as sure a bet you can make.

Mind you, this is SOLD OUT on their website, and what remains scattered at shops and restaurants will cost you 2x the price we have it for today.

Maybe you already know about Coup de Foudre. And if you don’t, maybe you’ve heard of Amuse Bouche and Au Sommet. The same man owns all and has worked closely with none other than Heidi Barrett, the Queen of Napa Valley, on these projects. Mic back to Decanter: “We make wines that are approachable now but have the bones and density to age gracefully over time, explains Schwartz, who owns several prestigious Napa-based wine projects including Amuse Bouche and Au Sommet, both joint ventures with long-time friend the notable wine consultant Heidi Barrett.”

Coup de Foudre means “struck by lightning” and is a French term for love at first sight. And that inspiration comes from owner John Schwartz’s early encounter with his eventual wife, Carrie, while studying in France. Fun fact - most of the labels on these wines showcase excerpts of Schwartz’s love letters (written in French) from their courtship. It’s also an accurate depiction of our feelings after the first sip. No question, one of the best wines that’s come across the tasting table in months. To get ANY of this at all is a coup in itself. To get it at today’s price is just an absolute stroke of luck.

Perhaps that’s because Kent Jarman oversees it. His storied past includes J. Vineyards & Winery, Spring Mountain Vineyard, and Duckhorn Wine Company. He currently makes Kenefick Ranch, Dos Lagos, Sommras, and Somerston, among others.

On the palate, it’s pure sexiness. Front loaded with melted black licorice, juicy blackberries, laser-focused raspberry preserves, and black plums. A substantial amount of new French oak gives off sexy, sweet oak tannins and barrel spices, and helps lay down a smooth, soft, round mouthfeel. Dream stuff, for sure.

You will not find this ANYWHERE remotely close to our price today, so get it while you can…

94 Points – James Suckling “Full-bodied but agile in acidity and moderate tannins, packed with crisp red and black fruit. Red cherries, blueberries, and zesty spearmint are shaped by 60% new barrels without adding a lot of oak spices. It’s subtle, fresh, and linear. 45% Merlot, 25% Petit Verdot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 15% Malbec. Drink or hold.”
