Mission Codename Candidly the best
“All is for the best in this best of all possible worlds.” – Dr. Pangloss, Candide
We think you deserve the best. And today, dear Operative, we may be living in the best of all possible worlds. Because we get to share this beautiful Chardonnay with you!
Also the best? Today’s price! Normally $45, go ahead and cut that in HALF AND THEN SOME!
When we tried this Chardonnay a couple of weeks ago at HQ, we knew one thing. We NEEDED to make this happen. The whole team was utterly enchanted by the mélange of tropical fruits, balanced crisp acidity, and subtle spice. It’s the type of Chardonnay you can’t put down. The type with fruit so voluptuous but coquettishly charming that it transports you to, well, the best of all possible worlds.
You just CAN’T FIND Chardonnay this good for UNDER $20! (except occasionally here!)
Pangloss Cellars was founded with the goal to share the best of Sonoma’s diverse grape varieties with the world. Most of their sales happen at the restored 120-year-old historic building on Sonoma square.
They named their wines after the eternal optimist in Voltaire’s Candide. It’s a reminder to embrace a glass half-full mentality. (In the best of all possible worlds, we imagine it’s this Chardonnay in the glass!)
Speaking of the best… We’ve talked a lot in the past about how EPIC the 2023 vintage is in Napa. But for Sonoma Chardonnay? It’s shaping up to be equally incredible.
“2023 began with record amounts of rain. Over the winter, reservoirs were replenished, and three years of drought came to a close. As the season progressed, the plentiful sunshine and hot temperatures Californians have come to expect in an era of climate change simply never materialized. Harvest was one of the latest on record, and 2023 turned out to be one of the coolest seasons California has experienced over the last two decades.” points out Wine Advocate. They go on to quote Littorai’s Ted Lemon, “It’s entirely possible that 2023 could be the best.” noting the wines’ incredible concentration, bright acidity, and moderate alcohols this vintage.
Their team couldn’t be better, too! Winemaker Erich Bradley is not famous, but that’s because he prefers to keep his nose in the cellar. Inspired to by a bottle of Arrowood in his youth, the UC Davis trained vintner would later work there, mentored by Dick Arrowood and David Ramey. He’s since moved on to lead many notable projects like Sojourn, Ojai Mountain, and of course, Pangloss. He has led the winery for sixteen years, and with dozens of harvests under his belt, is the driving force behind their small-batch, boutique winemaking philosophy.
We could go on…
Seriously, you’re going to want stock up by the case. With Chard this good, that glass isn’t going to keep itself half full!
