Signorello’s history stretches back to 1977 when Ray Signorello Sr. bought 100 acres of prime land in Napa. Today they employ a rockstar crew to manage their hillside vineyards. From consulting winemaker Celia Welch (of Scarecrow fame) to their daily Winemaker in charge Michael Costley (Gandona Estate and Far Niente, mentored by the one and only Graehme McDonald) to Steve Mathiasson as the vineyard manager. Their efforts with the legendary 2023 vintage will no doubt go down as one of their best yet.

Signorello’s ‘S’ bottling represents their “vision to produce a modern, plush, and ultimately crowd-pleasing Cabernet Sauvignon”. Sourced from vineyards beyond their own property including Solares in St. Helena and Pelissa in Oakville, this is the definition of a plush, luxurious and decadent Cabernet. Unbelievably rich blackcurrant and blackberry liqueur. Creme de cassis and peak summer ripe cherries. Layers of rich spice and chocolate and roasted candied walnuts. Just an absolute blockbuster loaded with fruit, spice, and spellbinding complexity.

96 points - Decanter “The 2023 ‘S’ is a standout vintage, building on the strong foundation established with its inaugural release in 2019. This year marks the addition of fruit from Oakville’s Pelissa Vineyard, which contributes further depth and complexity. Medium to full-bodied, the wine shows pronounced, iron-clad tannins—an iron fist in a velvet glove. The palate is charged with boysenberry, black cherry, and cassis, seamlessly interwoven with tobacco spice, cacao nibs, and finely judged cedarwood. A strikingly deep mid-palate unfurls with graham-cracker nuances, layered with dark berry fruit, in a composition that truly sings. This may be the most complete expression of S to date, finishing with impressive length and graphite-laced precision. The blend comprises 52% Cabernet Sauvignon from Solares Vineyard in St Helena, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon from Pelissa Vineyard in Oakville, and 14% Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon from Sylvan Lake Vineyard. It was matured for 26 months in 50% new French oak. Drink 2025-2035.”
