The pressure is just too much to contain. So we’re blowing the top CLEAN OFF the Napa Cabernet game today. Like Mount Saint Helens, the upper half of the price was vaporized. Gone. Kaput.

In other words, that $55/bottle just crumbled down to $25!

By now you’re probably familiar with Bobby Moy and his Chiron wines. The endless love for his ‘Bolt of Cloth’ flooded our Facebook group for months. And today it’s time to lay claim to his Black Powder Cab, which represents an incredible value Napa Cabernet.

He pulls this wine together each year from various lots he finds. The blend is always slightly different - with this vintage pulling fruit from way up in Calistoga all the way down to Oak Koll, and a few other places around Napa.

Bobby got into wine by way of Jeff Ames introducing him to Thomas Rivers Brown. Working alongside the Notorious TRB is like a dream come true for a young rookie winemaker. And like a giant sponge he soaked up every nuance he could. And he got exposure to some prime vineyard fruit. From there he landed at Coppola, before transitioning to his own label full time.

The goal here is to make a “drink me now” style Napa Cabernet. That means it’s a pop and pour type - immediately expansive and mouthfilling and generous. Poppin’ with aith all manner of plump, juicy blackberries, black plum jam, sweet vanilla and cocoa powder. No hard edges, just straight up reliable body on frame construction from front to back. This is the Napa Cab you can drink with abandon, and without breaking the bank.

The one downside? There’s not a lot of this one, sadly. But once it’s gone, we have one more treat from Chiron waiting in the wings.
