Bennifer, KimYe, Brangelina… so many power couples have come and gone. But this Napa Valley winemaking power couple is still together, and in TOP form!

Andy Erikson and Annie Favia have SO much cred, it’s difficult to capture the expanse of their efforts in a page.

Their combined resume reads like the ultimate California cult wine checklist: Screaming Eagle, Harlan, Dalla Valle, Arietta, Mayacamas, Pahlmeyer, Meteor…

Erikson and Favia (Ervia? Ferikson? Ok, clearly power couple nicknames are not in our wheelhouse) have become Napa Valley’s most sought-after winemaker and viticulturist duo, crafting multiple 100-point wines and delivering the goods time-after-time-after-time under their world-class Favia label.

And so here we are again, lauding their efforts (admittedly, not a difficult job!) with this 2021 Cabernet from Coombsville—probably Napa Valley’s hottest sub-AVA right now.

Favia combined fruit from three of Coombsville’s most exceptional sites in this Cab release: Collinetta (renowned for its volcanic and basalt soils), Rabbit Hole (planted on what might be the steepest slope in the entire AVA) and Meteor (which skyrocketed wines from Etude, Vineyard 29, and Arietta to fame).

Results went exactly as you’d expect: it nabbed a near-perfect double 98-point score from Decanter and The Wine Independent, thanks to its incredible marriage of complexity, vivacity, depth, and character. Power-packed in structure, acidity, and plush fruitiness. Speaking of expectations, this is the stellar Cab we expect from Favia: instantly and irresistibly delicious, yet constructed with the impeccable scaffolding that will allow it to age for decades.

98 Points – Decanter “Sourced from three Coombsville vineyards: Meteor, The Rabbit Hole, and Collinetta. A glass-staining ruby-purple colour. Intensely aromatic blackberry and cherry fruits are pure, precise, and layered with fragrant cedarwood notes, white pepper, and dark chocolate. Full-bodied with unctuous and concentrated dark berry fruits that have a satiny quality, framed by velvety fine-grained tannins and gobs of red liquorice, aromatic violets, and graphite. So dense and tightly packed and yet so fresh and inviting. Drink 2024-2040.”

98 Points – The Wine Independent “Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville explodes with bombastic notes of creme de cassis, black cherry preserves, and boysenberries giving way to nuances of cedar, graphite, and lavender oil. The full-bodied palate is jam packed with intense black and blue fruit layers supported by a solid line of firm grainy tannins and amazing tension, finishing long and with wonderful purity. Drink 2027-2052.”

97 Points – Vinous “The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, offers tons of nuance and Coombsville character. Savory and wonderfully deep, the 2021 captures all the pedigree of this great vintage. Lavender, crushed rocks, graphite and rose petals all run through this fleshy Cabernet Sauvignon.
