Mission Codename Lake Monster
“This is the kind of Cab you hope for when you spend close to $100” wrote one person (about the 2014 vintage) on Vivino.
That was years ago, and I hope they’re reading this email because that price has edged up by 50% to $150 these days. But our price, in the present year of 2025? It hits better than your favorite throwback jam from the 90s.
Let’s rewind the tape before we dive in.
“Two Lakes, huh?” said Agent Noir as Vine described the meaning behind this winery name.
To set the scene; imagine your favorite Agents sitting around the tasting table. Unsurprisingly, they are a rowdy bunch. Lots of cross talk, lots of opinions. Kinda feels like herding drunk cats sometimes.
But whisper a few key words and you can immediately capture everyone’s attention.
*“Atlas Peak. Kent Jarman. Robert Foley. 100% Cab. Estate.” The heated discussion on whether “The Greatest Showman” is a good movie or a terrible one suddenly ceased.
“We can offer at 63% off the retail value,” continues Vine. Annnnd we’re locked in.
Now we’re talking! Yes, what Vine said was true. We have a GORGEOUS Atlas Peak Cabernet Sauvignon for 63% off retail pricing today.
Dos Lagos is a sweet, focused 22-acre property in total. Besides the five acres of premium Cabernet Sauvignon grapes there are also two lakes on the property. Thus, the name.
Besides one of the most prestigious AVAs in California, this winery is also smart enough to be working with some of Napa Valley’s best winemakers.
Robert Foley started his career at Heitz Cellars (we know, right?!). After adding Markham Vineyards, Pride, Hourglass, Switchback Ridge and others to his resume, he has truly become a prestigious staple in the Napa Valley Cult winemaking community.
Him, alongside Kent Jarman have crafted Dos Lagos and brought all of themselves to the project. Because the epic property deserves it. Jarman started at the UC Davis program and then interned with J Vineyards and Winery in Healdsburg, Spring Mountain and was promptly hired at Duckhorn Wine Company (heard of it?). He now also makes wine for Kennefick Ranch, Sommerston Wine Company and recently offered Coup d’Foudre (an Ops Fav!!).
All this and a truly expressive 2019 vintage. Great balance and concentration caused by the cool wet spring and warm summer.
This wine is everything you’d expect from a cult Atlas Peak Cabernet Sauvignon. Depth and heart that surround a mélange of fruit, spice, wood and chewy chewy tannins! Dark cholate, deep cherry and cedar. Simply gorgeous.
Honestly, it’s a small vineyard. It’s a small winery. We only got so much. Don’t delay on this one!
