Mission Codename Seriously.... DAAAAAAAMMMN
Shocker (NOT). The Lewelling sold out.
Happy Mother’s Day, by the way!
We knew that would happen and lined up another single vineyard (even if not labeled so) from RUTHERFORD - also a very small lot from this newly discovered, soon-to-be-favorite “micro” producer.
While this sports the same “I said Goddamn!!” moniker, it’s sourced from a variety of undisclosed locations around Napa. You know how we feel about a spy worthy secret…. And the quality here will blow your mind!
So, if not the actor, who is Chris Pratt? He’s certainly no stranger to making great wines - having spent time at Napa Wine Co, Orin Swift, ADAMVS, Staglin and currently Aonair. The man knows his way around the good stuff.
The wines he makes for his own label are all one offs - there’s no continuous string of vintages from the same source. If he finds some good grapes he sees fit to use, he puts them to good use. And trust your Agents of Wine - he put this 2022 fruit to VERY good use.
As the Napa Wine Project said, “there are boutique producers, and then there are micro producers”. The ones who make 100-150 cases a year or so. Basically, enough to satisfy their personal quest for wine. And like Charlie’s golden ticket, your chances of finding any of this in the wild is slim to none… until today.
Compared to the Lewelling, this has more of a “valley floor” feel to it. A little richer, riper, plush and sweetly fruited. Cherry, blackberry preserves, cedar, lovely streaks of pepper with lush tannins and mouthwatering acid to boot. Terrifyingly easy to drink. And at $35, it sets a bar that’s impossible to clear for most producers. Don’t let your new favorite wine pass you by. This will be the summer block buster if you’re smart enough to get it.
Well, that’s all we got - if you scored either of these wines, congrats. You made a great use of your free will.
