Mission Codename Love Story
STOP, drop a bottle in your cart, and roll with us as we THIRST TRAP all over this sexy little Chardonnay.
We know this weekend has been busy. Celebrating America. Drinking wine. Grilling till our hearts are content. Drinking wine. Lighting fireworks. Safely, while drinking wine.
If you’ve gone through the cellar reserves this weekend, we have the perfect house wine to beef back up your stock.
This is California Chardonnay that the French would be proud of. It’s not dripping in oak, blown out with extraction, sugared up or manipulated with any fancy winemaking tricks. It’s as real as it gets - and made by a tiny, barely known producer here in Napa that we literally stumbled (it may have been after a few glasses of wine at Outer Space downtown).
To be clear, this is a minimal-intervention, natural style wine - but don’t let that scare you. We would never foist a sub-par “natty” bottle on you.
Truth be told, we generally look down on the stuff. Notes of “mouse hair” and vegemite? No thanks. Not our thing.
But not this one. It’s DELIGHTFUL. And it earned 92 points from Wine Enthusiast which we think easily could have been boosted a few points if it were a root day. This is clean and complex.
Got some?
Good, now go about your day (with a knowing grin and a certain pep in your step…) knowing you made a great decision.
We LOVE bringing you these kinds of finds. Truly under the radar, authentic gems from well-respected regions and vineyards. We especially LOVE when we can offer them to you for an incredible $19!! You won’t find this ANYWHERE else on the planet.
There will be NO LOVE LOST here. That’s right. Unless you’ve tripped over their gorgeous tasting room in downtown Napa, it is likely that you’ve never heard of these folks.
This comes from California-born, first generation Cuban American, Jay Nunez, No Love Lost focuses on clean, natural winemaking style. Jay is brave enough to tackle unique varietals (check out their Orange Picpoul, Counoise or Caringnan in the downtown Napa tasting room if you’re in the area) and after a visit to Compline wine shop where he showed some of his efforts, he received a resounding blessing to make his own label.
Unlike many of the natural wine trends, these wines are clean and brilliant and PURE. They use organic farming practices, indigenous yeast and no fining or filtering.
Think bright acidity zipping through a mélange of tropical flavors. Layer in light herb and baking spices with the perfectly balanced round texture and you’ve got a Chardonnay right to our hearts.
This is easily your new house white (especially since you drank all the old one this weekend). And you won’t find it on your Costco shelf, or even the local shop - they sell entirely direct. With one exception wink.
Don’t let it pass you by! Get it!
92 Points - Wine Enthusiast “This project is being touted as Napa’s Premier All-Natural Winery. The grape source for this Chardonnay is grown at Home Ranch. The fruit is high-toned, unctuous yellow apple, melon, and slight baking spice on the nose. The flavors are fresh Bartlett pear, guava, dried herbs, and tactical tannins on the finish. Pair with roasted butterfish, lemon caper butter sauce.”
