Mission Codename Darth Veeder
We are literally shaking.
This is a reality we were NOT prepared for…
The most decadent, LUSH, hedonistic, and flat out delicious Cabernet of the year just entered the chat. And get this… it checks in at a ridiculous 64% off the $135 price tag. Are you ready?? Of course you are!!
After tasting this, we immediately set to work securing the deal and landed a small amount of this outrageously polished and ripe Cabernet. It’s crafted by none other than Jeff Ames. He is a true master at his craft, having worked under Thomas Rivers Brown at Schrader, Maybach, Outpost, and TOR. Jeff also owns Rudius - and a lucky few of you might have experienced his outstanding Farella & Panek Cabs we sold out of last year. If you know, then you know…
So, about this wine… definitely not for those who want a more reserved or Old World style Cab. Nope. This stuff is “SUPER flashy, ultra-ripe and undeniably sweet” as one CellarTracker review puts it. Dunnuck calls it “ripe, full-bodied, and opulent” and mind you his review was back in 2017(!) when this was a tannic beast with HUGE upwards potential. Today, it’s far, FAR better than 90+ points. It airdrops a pile of ripe fruit onto your starved palate with a crazy density that rivals Thor’s hammer. Packed and stacked with so much ripe blackberry and blueberry, red currant, espresso and mocha, with piles of sweet vanilla and baking spice that know no bounds. The tannins have resolved into super soft and polished little things and despite its flashy style it has all the balance and length you could ever hope for. Plus, the bottle design, with its topographic art and super detailed winemaking info is also a total head turner, we just can’t stop admiring it inside out.
You almost never see Napa Mountain Cabernet of this caliber priced like this. In fact, we might need to check if we somehow slipped into the upside down, or another dimension. Whatever reality you’re living in, this needs to be part of it.
Yesterday it was $135. Today it’s $49.
You can get Cab for less, but it won’t top this. And you can spend WAY more and still come up short. So… what are you waiting for??
90+ Points - Jeb Dunnuck
“These solid, enjoyable efforts are made by Jeff Ames. A blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot, and 1% Merlot, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon from Anthem offers a slightly lifted, perfumed style in its ripe blueberry and blackberry fruits, hints of violets, spice and forest floor. Ripe, full-bodied and opulent on the palate, with serious amounts of tannin hiding under its fruit, it’s going to benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring and keep for 10-15 years after that. Drink 2018-2033.”
