Mission Codename So Hot Right Now

Morgado. SO hot right now. 95 AND 94+ points hot. 50% OFF hot. This stuff is the Truth, with a capital T. All you people who love high-scoring, lush, sexy Napa Cabs & Blends better jump in here with both feet. A screaming good buy for a whisper of its original price.

Kimberly Hatcher comes from Russel Bevan’s school of 100-point winemaking. The SF firefighter turned winemaking protege learned more than a few tricks from the master, and it’s 1,000% on display right here. A Right Bank style blend of 65% Cab Franc and 35% Merlot yields a rich, ripe, stylish wine. Words like MASSIVELY concentrated, rich, opulent, and expansive come close to describing this stuff but it’s truly difficult to fathom or describe. The sheer depth of fruit is like a cosmic vortex that sucks you in and never lets go. Delicious blackberry and sandalwood, graphite, a mélange of baking spice and a drop of vanilla bean ride along on superfine tannins into long, long finish. Ripe but not overly so. This will evolve over a decade, easily. Good luck waiting that long.

Critics agree that this is one EXCEPTIONAL blockbuster, as Jeb Dunnuck best put, you’re looking at a; “pleasure-bent effort that delivers the goods.” Finally, in looking over the Cellartracker reviews, one note caught our eye: “The QPR is fantastic even at $100.” So true. But you are not paying anything near that. In fact, consider this: Russel Bevan’s 2015 Sugarloaf, cut of the same cloth, sells for $250+. You just cannot find a similarly high scoring 2015 Napa Red at this price. Period.

So, that begs the question…what are you waiting for? Skedaddle!!

95 Points – Jeb Dunnuck

“These blockbuster styled beauties are made by Kimberly Hatcher, who has been a San Francisco firefighter since 1998 and a winemaker since 2009, where she’s trained under Russell Bevan. A rich, concentrated, pleasure-bent effort that delivers the goods, the 2015 Sugarloaf Mountain Red Wine offers deep, concentrated notes of cassis, black cherries, graphite, and earth. This full-bodied, elegant, sensationally textured 2015 has no hard edges, fine tannin, a surprising elegance, and a terrific finish. It’s going to drink nicely for two decades. Drink 2018-2038.”

94+ Points – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

“Composed of 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Franc, the 2015 Sugarloaf Mountain Proprietary Red has an evocative, earthy nose of tilled soil and mossy bark over a core of warm red and black currants with touches of pencil shavings, dried herbs and fungi. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is fine, elegant and fresh, with expressive earthy layers and a long, finely grained finish. Drink 2017-2039.”
