Kind of like today’s wine, from up-and-coming cult favorite The Walls. A 97 pointer and another prime example of our unrelenting drive to find the absolute best wines to share with you - at prices we never thought possible.

The Walls, you say? Never heard of them? They’re one of Washington’s most talked about wines among the treasure hunting wine cognoscenti. The Walls refers to the Walla Walla penitentiary, and it also refers to the walls we put up in our own lives. Perhaps more relevant than ever these days - “we put up walls to protect our hearts, we toil within the walls of work constraints, we build walls to defend what’s important to us. Nevertheless, as we build walls we’re also always looking for ways we can tear them down. Wine is the river that can overflow, subvert, and topple these walls. It is a powerful force in bringing people together and building true community, capturing and preserving memories of time, places and people.”

Damn. Well said.

But let’s talk about the wine, shall we? We’ll start by sharing a few reviews we picked up from CellarTracker where people leave brutally honest, sometimes obscene - with our apologies - yet accurate feedback:

The 100% Cabernet fruit comes from the much loved and exalted Red Mountain, where some of Washington’s best wines are born, specifically the Quintessence Vineyard. Ripe jammy cherry and blueberry, vanilla. Not over the top but just brimming with an ever-changing mélange of complexity. A brilliant finish that lasts on and on with stunning fruit and terroir. Jeb Dunnuck notes that these are; “singular, beautiful wines I’d be thrilled to drink” and this particularly as the highest rated one is “thrillingly textured on the palate” - simply head spinning, deeply philosophical, and supremely enjoyable stuff in every way!

Excellence is not a coincidence when Todd Alexander is the Consulting Winemaker here, with a “Best of Napa Valley 100-pointers” resume, including PlumpJack, Cade, and Bryant Family Vineyard. Only 17 barrels were made of this and we brought every one we could across the borders. Maybe not a massive break, but man, easily one of the most compelling wines we’ve offered this year and it’s a must have for anyone who enjoys premium Cabernet.

All have singular charactesr yet they share a rare sense of purity and elegance paired with plenty of richness and depth. These are singular, beautiful wines I’d be thrilled to drink. The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Curiositas from this estate comes all from Red Mountain (Quintessence Vineyard) and spent 18 months in 70% new French oak. Up-front crème de cassis, lavender, mountain scrub brush, tobacco, and ample gravelly minerality all define the bouquet, and it’s rich, medium to full-bodied, and thrillingly textured on the palate. It’s a stunning bottle of wine that has the class to drink nicely today yet will evolve for 20 years or more. Drink 2020-2040.”
