Mission Codename Love You Till Tuesday
“Hold onto your butts!” - Samuel L. Jackson, Jurassic Park
Yup, hold on real tight because Meyer Family (of Bonny’s-Spitfire-Fluffy fame) is BACK by popular demand! This all-time favorite returns in a big way, this time with a gorgeous 92 point single vineyard Chardonnay under $20! Who loves ya? Hint…it’s us!
And what a singular cool climate vineyard Donnelly Creek is. For decades it’s been a go-to source for Roederer Estate, Duckhorn’s Goldeneye, Copain, Pax, just to name a few. Truly a hidden Anderson Valley gem, the Meyers are among the lucky few to label a wine entirely from this small-in-size yet big-in-reputation source.
For the few of you still in the dark, behind that roaring lion adorning the label is a super cool, in-the-know winery, as you might recognize Justin Meyer as co-founder of SILVER OAK. After Justin’s passing the family set their sights on revisiting Oakville Cabernet with the original 4-acre Bonny’s Vineyard. They also make a small amount of absolutely killer single vineyard Syrah, Pinot, and Chardonnay. You simply can’t go wrong with anything from these guys, especially at our price!
Now, we love our crisp, steely Chablis on these hot summer days. But let’s not pretend we don’t love the uber-friendly California style that’s on full display here. Like that old Juicy Fruit commercial, “It’s got a taste that gets right through ya!”. It lights up your prefrontal cortex pleasure area with all its big, rich and ripe flavors. Not a butter bomb either, it saw malolactic fermentation, yet all is held in check. More a peach bomb, melon explosion, honeysuckle dripping treat. It’s super creamy, touch oaky (25% new French), accented by the hint of vanilla. Add six months barrel aging on lees and you get a superb mouthfeel, with all the complexity you can ask for.
The Wine Enthusiast review describes it as “very generous in flavor… big but well-balanced and well-crafted…suitable for a special occasion.” You know, like any Tuesday evening. At $19 this runs ALL DAY with the big dogs that cost $40 and up. But the secret is out and Meyer Family never lasts long around here though, so make your move!
92 Points - Wine Enthusiast
“Medium bodied and very generous in flavor, this is a big but well-balanced and well-crafted wine that’s suitable for a special occasion. It exudes vanilla, cream and toasted baguette aromas and follows with rich pear, hazelnut and fig flavors and a good lingering finish.”
