Mission Codename Con-ter-YES PLEASE!
Barolo geeks gather up!!!
Another fantastic score from the ubiquitous Conterno-Fantino for anyone who loves high-end, single-vineyard, hyper-focused Old World reds with tons of character and terrific terroir. With a great deal, too, because normally this sells for $120. It’s $49, exclusively on TWS.
Oh yea, it also brings a gang of scores from the press.
Conterno-Fantino, what a grandiose name in Barolo! Representing the opposite end of the stylistic spectrum of Piedmont, with as modern an approach as the latest handmade screaming yellow Lambo to roll out of the Sant’Agata Bolognese plant. Polished, powerful, and flamboyant in style, a showstopper…
Once again, we’re THRILLED to offer you this rare collectible under $50, with an unforeseeable discount over 50% off, worth twice, easily, if not more. With scores galore, it’s yet another sure bet.
Get what you can rapidly and buy enough to patiently witness its cellar-worthiness.
93 Points – Antonio Galloni’s Vinous
“Conterno-Fantino’s 2014 Barolos show the vintage at its very best. All four Barolos are marked by ripe, sweet tannin that gives the wines considerable allure and raciness. The 2014s saw approximately 12 days on the skins. Conterno-Fantino gave their historic wines - Vigna del Gris and Sori Ginestra - two years in French oak. Yields are down 25% across the board. The 2014 Barolo Castelletto Vigna Pressenda kicks off this flight of 2014 Barolos at Conterno-Fantino. Unusually silky and gracious for a Castelletto Barolo, the Pressenda is simply gorgeous. In 2014, the more floral, perfumed side of this Monforte cru comes through. Beautifully persistent and impeccable in its balance, the 2014 Pressenda is a winner. Drink 2020-2029.”
92 Points – James Suckling
“Red cherries and leafy notes on the nose, all leading to a handy array of ripe cherries. A little chew through the palate, which builds nicely into the finish. Has layers and depth. Try from 2022.”
91 Points – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
“The 2014 Barolo Ginestra Vigna del Gris is a generous and expressive wine that puts forth fleshy dark fruit, red rose and dried lavender. In fact, those floral notes are the wine’s lasting signature, as they are very pronounced in this cooler vintage. Spice, leather and campfire ash follow in close proximity. The best part is the finale that offers crunch, snap and sparkle. Drink 2020-2035.”
